Dataset for Conjunction Assessment Verification

These data are available on a full and open basis, with no restrictions on use or
dissemination, under the Creative Commons Universal Public Domain Dedication (CC0-
1.0).

This test set was developed for Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS) purposes and is designed to help Space Situational Awareness (SSA) service providers to improve and check their conjunction assessment (CA) algorithms. The dataset comes with an answer key that lists the conjunctions in the dataset – providing a tool for self-assessment and improvement.

DISCLAIMER: While the ephemeris dataset was crafted to include stressing edge cases in addition to an operational catalog, it is not completely comprehensive, as there are nearly infinite combinations of orbits and conjunction geometries possible.

Before offering conjunction assessment services for TraCSS, the service providers are recommended to use the dataset to test and improve their system. However, it does not need to match 100%.

The test set is comprised of five (5) total files: the input ephemeris dataset; two conjunction data
message (CDM) results files, one for a constant spherical screening volume and one for the
Space Flight Safety Handbook (SFSH) rectangular screening volumes; a key for mapping the
SFSH screening volumes to specific objects, and a user’s guide for how to effectively utilize
this test set.

Note that there are two different answer keys, the “spherical screening volume results”
and the “SFSH screening volume results,” where the configuration for running each test case is
described in the User’s Guide.

These files are available for anyone upon request. If you wish to get the dataset, please send an email to space.commerce.storage@gmail.com with a title: CA Dataset Access Request and list:

• your name;
• your organization (or, indicate if private citizen); and
• your intended purpose for the use of the dataset.
