TraCSS Update: Delivering on SPD-3 and Advancing Spaceflight Safety
As the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS) approaches production release, the Office of Space Commerce is pleased to announce new solicitations through GSA’s Global Data Marketplace (GDM) for a “Commercial Conjunction Assessment Screening Services” (CASS) pilot.
These solicitations represent an important first step toward improving conjunction analysis quality – a core part of the mission that Space Policy Directive-3 assigned the Department of Commerce; and another example of TraCSS leveraging the commercial SSA industry’s innovative capabilities.
By evaluating commercial CASS outputs and independent data quality assessments, TraCSS will work to close capability gaps in today’s approach to space traffic coordination, strengthening the safety of space operations worldwide.
The two solicitations cover:
- CASS Providers: OSC is selecting up to five vendors to provide data from their CASS to support evaluation activities. The CASS provider data will identify suitable services to explore further for integration into the TraCSS operational system.
- CASS Data Quality Monitor: OSC will select one provider to manage the dataflow required for this evaluation and perform an independent evaluation of the quality of the CASS providers’ products.
About TraCSS
NOAA’s Office of Space Commerce (OSC) is developing the Traffic Coordination System for Space to provide basic space situational awareness (SSA) data and services to civil and private space operators in support of spaceflight safety.
As part of this effort, OSC is collaborating closely with civil and commercial operators to ensure TraCSS meets their needs and preparing them for the transition to the TraCSS system. TraCSS offers opportunities for industry engagement and partnership through pathfinder and pilot efforts with multiple commercial SSA providers.
