TraCSS Goes Global: International Government Onboarding Begins
A leap forward for international space flight safety and SSA coordination.
The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Office of Space Commerce (OSC) has begun onboarding “National Government Accounts” onto the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS). These accounts will supplement the pilot program currently available for satellite owner/operators.
This major milestone is a step toward realizing the Office’s “Vision for Global Space Situational Awareness Coordination,” which envisions OSC maintaining an open and transparent system that enables global coordination with other space situational awareness (SSA) providers and ensures reliable and efficient services to global spacecraft operators.

National Government Accounts enable governments across the world to view space safety information for all spacecraft affiliated with their country. This read-only account gives countries valuable insight into their national spaceflight safety situation and enables all countries to be a part of the conversation on global spaceflight safety.
The Governments of the United Kingdom and Australia are the first to onboard as National Government Account users.
The Office of Space Commerce is developing the Traffic Coordination System for Space to provide basic SSA data and services to space operators in support of spaceflight safety. TraCSS, which is currently in a pilot evaluation phase, was established to implement President Trump’s direction in Space Policy Directive-3 for the Department of Commerce to provide space operators with space traffic safety data and services.
In early 2026, the Traffic Coordination System for Space began accepting satellite owner/operator registrations directly through the TraCSS.gov webpage. As of today, there are 52 “Pilot Users” across 21 countries actively onboarded onto the system, together comprising over 11,000 spacecraft in orbit.
TraCSS aims to become the world’s largest, most transparent, safety-focused SSA system globally available to operators. In addition to running the TraCSS system, OSC is actively involved in developing data standards with industry and government partners to enhance global space operations – including close collaboration with EUSST (the European Union’s SSA system), focusing on notification thresholds and service scope.
“OSC and the TraCSS team recognize the critical role of international coordination to keep space safe. TraCSS National Government Accounts give countries a tool to improve their awareness of space flight safety and better coordinate with others around the world,” said OSC’s Head of International SSA Engagement, Dr. Mariel Borowitz.
